‘Stats of the Word’ – Infographic
Each year, the co-founder of WordPress and CEO of Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com), Matt Mullenweg, gives a presentation in which he details how WordPress is progressing and the direction it’s currently heading. I’m talking, of course, about Mullenweg’s annual ‘State of the Word’ speech — which took place this year at WordCamp US 2015.
The speech itself is now available to watch online, and if you work with WordPress in any kind of professional capacity, it’s something you’ll almost certainly do well to watch in its entirety.
If you really don’t have the time though (it is after all over an hour-and-a-half long) and/or all you’re primarily interested in are the current stats and numbers as of December 2015, here’s a handy infographic — called ‘Stats of the Word’ (what a great title!) — from WP Engine summarizing the key figures:

P.S. If you’re interested in attending WordCamp US 2016, amazingly, you can already grab a ticket!!!
